Abstract

Around the world, we see a trend of private companies getting increasingly more involved in providing stability in some regions of the world and contributing to or leading peace initiatives to help their local community. This trend is also aligned with and stimulated by the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) to create a sustainable, peaceful, and inclusive future for everyone. Especially SDG 16 is essential, which is focused on promoting partnership between the government and organizations in providing peace, justice, and stability in the country.

In the past year, I have researched SDG implementation in the private sector in Costa Rica. Through conducting fieldwork, I have identified the need from these companies for training and further collaboration with the government. In this research, I have also interviewed Costa Rican private companies who further stressed the sensitivity and complexity of companies involving themselves in peace stability. Avoiding conflicts in this involvement can be achieved by implementing peace education within the companies to teach the employees how to approach these sensitive matters to have the most favorable and beneficial outcome for all parties involved.  Therefore, I have composed the following research question: How can peace education be implemented in the private sector in Costa Rica?
