Abstract

The article examines the spread of antisemitism on Costa Rica’s social media, particularly Facebook,
following the onset of the conflict between Israel and Hamas in October 2023. Using a qualitative
approach, comments from high-circulation media were categorized as positive, negative, or neutral.
Nearly half of the comments analyzed were antisemitic, revealing hate patterns similar to those
seen globally. This phenomenon highlights the influence of international events on local dynamics
and underscores the need for public policies to promote tolerance and regulate digital discourse.
Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of education and collaboration between governments
and organizations to mitigate the impact of online hate speech.
