Abstract

The following investigation raises the issue of the legalization of industrial hemp and marijuana in Costa Rica: Economic growth, entrepreneurship, and new job options in the country. In the field of industrial hemp and marijuana for medicinal and recreational use, the differences and similarities, their different chemical components called cannabinoids, a little about their history, health benefits, different uses, among others, are discussed.

The signatures of the former president and the current president of the Republic regarding the matter and its legalizations are mentioned. In the same way, the great potential that they have at the country level, since it is a viable industry in the country thanks to its tropical climate, and internationally. The benefits of the plants as such are mentioned, as well as the benefits that these legalizations can bring to progress with some of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in the country. Studies of sources are analyzed and in the same way the opinions of third parties with the purpose of knowing the position in which the Costa Rican population is in terms of the current issue.

Finally, some recommendations are mentioned from the marketing field to arouse interest, educate correctly, raise awareness, reduce misinformation, and taboos that exist within the same Costa Rican population, in an interactive and massive way that attracts the attention of the public.

This research is of a quantitative and qualitative nature, sent to the Costa Rican population by collecting information through a questionnaire in an approximate period of two weeks. 113 anonymous responses were obtained with a sample size of 53 people, a confidence level of 95% and a margin of error of 10%.
