Abstract

Introduction: Sialadenitis is an inflammation of the salivary glands, it can be acute or chronic. Obstructive etiology (due to stones or stenosis), or as a consequence of a bacterial, viral or fungal infection. It presents as an increase in the volume of the salivary gland, pain and a bad taste in the mouth or xerostomia. The treatment is oriented to the origin of the inflammation. Case report: A 32-year-old woman who presented an increase in volume in the right floor of the mouth, one week of evolution, associated with a lymphadenopathy in the neck. A meticulous anamnesis and complementary examinations were carried out, confirming the diagnosis of acute bacterial suppurative sialadenitis. Antibiotics and anti- inflammatories were treated. Conclusions: The importance of recognition, support in the diagnostic means and timely management of acute suppurative bacterial sialadenitis in the sublingual gland is demonstrated, substantially improving the quality of life of the patient.
